  • With this album, Dominic plays tribute to some of his favourite singer-pianists, including all-time-greats such as Shirley Horn, Blossom Dearie, Dave Frishberg and Michel Legrand. The group takes the format of the longstanding Shirley Horn trio, with Dominic singing at the piano, accompanied by electric bass (Madeleine Edwards) and drums (Martin France). Stellar jazz soloists Iain Ballamy (saxes) and Gerard Presencer (trumpet/flugelhorn) feature on several of the tracks.

"It's rare to find a pianist-singer with a style so finely integrated that it's hard to think of voice and piano as separate elements. Dominic Alldis is British, and perfected his style opening the show for jazz-cabaret royalty such as Blossom Dearie and Mark Murphy. His subtle treatment of lyrics matches the delicacy of his keyboard harmonies and he swings - quietly but inexorably. We're lucky to have him. With brief, telling contributions from saxophonist Iain Ballamy and trumpeter Gerard Presencer, this is a delicious set."

    **** CD OF THE WEEK
"In his early nights as a song-and-piano man, Dominic Alldis discovered
Shirley Horn in Paris and played opposite other American topliners,
including Blossom Dearie, Steve Ross and Dave Frishberg, in London. This is
his appreciative salute to these and other artists who helped shape his
style. Tenorist Iain Ballamy and trumpeter Gerard Presencer add lustre to
sophisticated arrangements by the man whose group, cool vocals and nimble
keyboard touch return to the Pizza on the Park tonight and tomorrow."
